Looking forward to ordering some books for some ministers who are writing about the passion the have for evangelical Christian ministry. I heard about these two from a friend, did a little research on my own, and really think I’m going to get them.

Here are a few:

Steven Furtick

His new book Unqualified looks very interesting. “I am unqualified. And so are you. This is a book for anyone frustrated with your failures and fed up with your weaknesses. It’s about coming to terms with the good, the bad, and the unmentionable in your life – and learning how to let God use you in spite of your mess.”

Levi Lusko

His new book Through the Eyes of a Lion looks pretty hardcore.  He lost his daughter to a terrible asthma attack, then preached two days later. Pretty incredible.  “In Through the Eyes of a Lion, Pastor Levi Lusko shares the eye-opening truth of the power of hope in a world that is often filled with pain, suffering, and loss. He says, “This book isn’t a manual for grieving, but a manifesto for high-octane living, and through it I want you to see that God made you for a purpose. There is a wild and wonderful calling on your life, a microphone in your hands. Jesus wants you to look at the adventure of your life through His eyes, the eyes of a Lion.”

I wanted to interrupt this We Can Do It Wednesday, with a new idea that I’m throwing around.  I may shift things around…it is my blog after all…and do a What I’m Listening To Wednesday in the mix every once in a while.  I thought about changing Monday to Musical Mondays…but I like the miscellaneous idea and the freedom of posting whatever I want to on Mondays.

So, here’s the first ever What I’m Listening To Wednesday.

Roo Panes.  Craziest name ever.  And, yes, I did like the music before I ever saw what he looked like.  That’s just an added bonus. 🙂

He’s different sounding.  I think that’s why I like it.  He’s got a nice voice.  Lyrics are clean. I still think there are better song writers like David Ramirez or Sean McConnell that I’m sure I will feature later.

But I’m listening to his new album Paperweights right now, and I love it.

After a super interesting conversation with Erin tonight about Trump and what looks like an eventual Republican nomination, it made me start thinking about who I would want in the cabinet, and who are my picks for these positions in the cabinet. I admit, some of these were Erin’s idea, but I have to agree. I like a lot of these.

First…whomever he picks as his Vice President would have to be great.  Don’t know who that would be.

Sick. Again. This time I’m actually home from work (Thursday) frustrated that I’m wasting a day to lay in bed instead of doing something fun.

So, here’s a self imposed day off.

I know I’ve talked about grace before, but it’s just an issue that I struggle with.

“Grace” is the most important concept in the Bible, Christianity, and the world. It is most clearly expressed in the promises of God revealed in Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ.

Grace is the love of God shown to the unlovely; the peace of God given to the restless; the unmerited favor of God.

What is grace and what are some ways people have defined grace?

“Grace is free sovereign favor to the ill-deserving.”(B.B. Warfield)

“Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.”(John Stott)

“[Grace] is God reaching downward to people who are in rebellion against Him.”(Jerry Bridges)

“Grace is unconditional love toward a person who does not deserve it.” (Paul Zahl)

Grace is most needed and best understood in the midst of sin, suffering, and brokenness. We live in a world of earning, deserving, and merit, and these result in judgment. That is why everyone wants and needs grace. Judgment kills. Only grace makes alive.

A shorthand for what grace is – “mercy, not merit.” Grace is the opposite of karma, which is all about getting what you deserve. Grace is getting what you don’t deserve, and not getting what you do deserve. Christianity teaches that what we deserve is death with no hope of resurrection.

While everyone desperately needs it, grace is not about us. Grace is fundamentally a word about God: his un-coerced initiative and pervasive, extravagant demonstrations of care and favor. Michael Horton writes, “In grace, God gives nothing less than Himself. Grace, then, is not a third thing or substance mediating between God and sinners, but is Jesus Christ in redeeming action.”
